Technical Director – Corporate & Live Events

Location: Sydney, Australia

Full-time

The Opportunity

The Technical Director is a technical leadership role responsible for the technical planning, design and delivery of complex live productions.

Working closely with our Production Managers, Operation team and technical crews, you will develop technical solutions that transform creative concepts and production requirements into practical, reliable and deliverable outcomes.

You will take ownership of the technical direction of projects from pre-production through to onsite delivery, ensuring systems are designed effectively, teams are aligned and productions are delivered to the highest professional standard.

This role will support a diverse range of productions including corporate conferences, broadcast-integrated events, hybrid productions, brand activations and large-scale live events.

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability — someone who can design solutions, guide teams, solve complex problems and make confident decisions in fast-paced live environments.

About You

You are an experienced Technical Director, Technical Manager or Senior Technical Lead with a strong background in live events, corporate production, or complex AV environments.

You have a passion for technical excellence and enjoy working collaboratively with production teams to deliver outstanding outcomes.

You understand that successful events require more than technical knowledge — they require leadership, communication, planning and the ability to turn creative ideas into practical solutions.

You are organised, solutions-focused and confident taking ownership of technically complex productions from planning through to execution.

Experience Required

  • Extensive experience as a Technical Director, Technical Manager or Senior Technical Lead within the live events or AV industry.
  • Proven experience delivering complex corporate, hybrid or touring productions.
  • Strong onsite leadership experience managing technical crews and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Production Managers, Operations, clients, creative teams, suppliers and venue stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of professional AV systems, signal flow and production workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of video systems, LED processing and large-format display solutions.
  • Experience with LED processing platforms including Brompton, NovaStar, eVision or similar.
  • Experience with video switching and screen management systems such as Barco E2 or equivalent.
  • Experience with broadcast systems, cameras, streaming and hybrid event technologies.
  • Ability to develop and contribute to CAD drawings, technical plans, system schematics and production documentation.
  • Strong understanding of entertainment rigging principles and LED screen installation requirements.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Experience, Licences & Skills

  • Experience delivering medium-large-scale productions in venues, arenas, stadiums, major venues or similarly complex environments.
