Intelligence in the Elements: KIA at VIVID Sydney
When KIA took centre stage at Circular Quay for VIVID Sydney, the requirement wasn’t just for a display – it was for a fully autonomous, weather-hardened interactive experience. Building on the success of a previous activation at the Australian Open, WOOHAH partnered with Studio MESSA to deliver a high-stakes evolution in automation and real-time rendering.
Creating a “set-and-forget” installation in one of Australia’s most high-traffic, exposed outdoor environments required a masterclass in reliability:
- In-House Software Innovation: At the heart of the activation was a Custom Event App developed entirely in-house by the WOOHAH team. This bespoke software integrated motion tracking with real-time rendering, allowing the installation to react dynamically to the public in a seamless, fluid visual loop.
- The Power of Pixera: We utilised Pixera Media Servers to manage the complex data overhead of real-time mapping and content playback. This provided the rock-solid backbone needed to sustain high-performance visuals 24/7 throughout the festival.
- Extreme Weatherproofing & Reliability: Operating at Circular Quay during VIVID means facing the elements. We engineered a completely automated, “always-on” solution designed for extreme weather resilience. Our systems were built with redundant fail-safes to ensure 100% uptime without the need for constant on-site intervention.
- Timecode-Synchronised Atmosphere: To create a truly immersive environment, we deployed a Full Lighting and Audio solution, entirely programmed via Timecode. This ensured that every pulse of light and every sonic layer was perfectly synced with the real-time visual movements, night after night.
- Autonomous Intelligence: By advancing the automation logic from previous iterations, we delivered a “smart” activation that managed its own cycles, reacting to its environment with the precision of a living installation.
